The Germans are a practical bunch. As well as coming up with way more inventions than their European neighbors, they also have several everyday tricks to make life that little bit more efficient or enjoyable. We find out more on this week's Meet the Germans.
Rachel Stewart is on a mission to investigate the quirks and idiosyncrasies of daily life in Germany. Every two weeks she explores a new topic - from beer to nudity to complicated grammar - and heads out to get some tips from the Germans themselves.
Rachel moved from the UK to Germany in 2016. As a relative newcomer she casts a fresh eye over German clichés and shares her experiences of settling into German life. You'll find more from Meet the Germans on PLstore or at dw.com/MeettheGermans.
And don’t forget to comment with your own experiences!

Vietnamese people can open bottles with everything, a chopstick, a rock, a table, a stool... or even another bottle

I as a german dont care if people wear shoes. I actually dont really like always taking my shoes off when I visit friends. I got short legs and always trip over my pants without shoes, because I get my pants cut at a taylor and he measures with shoes on.
And I feel insecure in the summer when I got sweaty feet.
And I hate it when you need like 2 minutes to open up your shoes and take them off, like when wearing boots and then you go outside for a walk, another 2 or 3 minutes, go back in, then maybe go on the road, go back for dinner and then going home again. Its like 15 minutes extra when visiting friends.
Also I have dogs and I do clean their paws but some dirt just gets in, and in the first floor I dont care, I can just swipe through and it is clean again. When I go upstairs to my bed, or to get clothes or get to the storage room for games or whatever. And I have a backyard, would be annoying changing shoes all the time.

The silent-sundays aren't that strictly silent, it's more the fact that the shops are closed and you don't work (exerpt from some doctors and ambulaces)
But the rest was a really nice presentation 😀
    Loved it, I'll watch more

    one thing:
I've heard that people outside of Germany don't use water boilers. I would really miss that. How would you make tea or instant soup without one. I personally use it to preheat water for virtually anything from cooking rice to a hot-water bottle or just cooking german ravioli. That "we don't have that" suddenly seems really unrealistic. Somebody tell me if this was a lie?

some of these "hacks" are quite understandable, but i really cant believe that we are the only country to know how to open a bottle of beer with almost everything. it's just simple logic. we even open a bottle of beer using another bottle of beer as a bottle opener, its that simple

2:48 that rule also applied in Asia countries, if you are invited to someone's house, better take off your shoes when you enter their house. Of coz they don't have slippers all the time, depending on the season.. if it is winter in Japan then they might have it, but summer in southeast Asia then ...just bare foot

It depends on where you drive. Sometimes, you are faster if you don't use the Autobahn, because of traffic jam. Reason? Because 80% of germans, mostly townsman, can't drive reasonable. Big car, but no brain.
